MARINES AND FRIENDS OF MARINES!  Your NEW Ships Store is OPEN and ready for business!  THE SEMPER FI STORE opened the second week of December.  We are still receiving new and exciting merchandise every day and making changes and refinements, but we are proud as new parents at the way the store turned out.  We think that the members of the Marine Corps League will be equally proud to have this fine store out there for the public to see.  We think you will be as pleased as we are when you learn that you can finally purchase ALL your uniform needs directly from the Semper Fi Store, such as the Marine Corps League Red Blazer, black trousers, white shirts (short and long sleeve), ties, belts etc.  No need to shop around, support your Semper Fi Store and you will love the service you receive.

So – on your next trip to the Washington area, or to see the Museum of the Marine Corps, or just on your travels up and down the I-95 corridor, make it a point to stop in and see our new digs.  We intend to show it off in February during the Midwinter Conference by running a shuttle from the hotel to the Semper Fi Store so that all who attend Midwinter will have an opportunity to be a part of the excitement.  For those of you who can’t make it here for Midwinter, we will have a photo story in the next issue of "Semper Fi" the magazine.  Stay tuned.
On December 8th, right after the Tree of Lights Ceremony at Quantico, Ernie Lutz and I had an opportunity to meet with the leadership of the Marine Corps’ Marine For Life Program.  For those of you who may not be familiar with the program,
Marine For Life provides assistance to Marines who leave active duty and return to civilian life. The Marine For Life network - consisting of Marines, Marine veterans, mentors, businesses and civic and veterans' organizations — helps Marines make a smooth and successful transition to the community. Marine For Life’s goal is to contribute to the well-being of Marines by connecting them together in a network responsive to their lifelong needs.
Marine For Life was established in 2002 to provide assistance to Marines making the transition to civilian life. In 2004, after the start of the war in Iraq, the mission of Marine For Life shifted toward providing assistance to wounded Marines returning home. With the stand-up of the Marine Corps Wounded Warrior Regiment, Marine For Life is now returning to its original role.
Marine For Life has focused on revitalizing its operations and outreach during 2009. In line with its revitalization, Marine For Life has expanded its headquarters staff by adding a deputy director and educational, employment, and marketing specialists. It also has reorganized its field staff and operations to better support Marines leaving active service. Marine For Life now operates in all regions of the United States.
Marine Corps League members can assist Marine For Life by serving as auxiliary representatives in local communities. As an auxiliary representative, you would help to build the Marine For Life network of employers, educational institutions, and civic groups in your community.
Members also can help Marine For Life by becoming mentors. Mentors work with Marines making the transition to civilian life. They advise Marines on subjects like relocating to a new area, the ins and outs of specific career fields, resume writing, interviewing skills, job opportunities, and moving on to the next stages of their lives.
To better achieve its vision of providing lifelong support for Marines, Marine For Life’s plans for the future include establishing a dedicated call center to respond to Marines requesting assistance; and expanding its national outreach directed toward Marines, employers, mentors, and others.  During the early years of the program, the Marine Corps League played a major role in providing support to the active duty and Reserve Marines who were working with Marine For Life.  Leaguers also became designated points-of-contact in those areas where M-4-L did not have representation.  The Marine Corps and the Marine Corps League are both looking forward to re-invigorating that relationship and creating an even stronger program than existed in the early years.  You will hear more in future articles, but if you want to contact Marine For Life or to learn more about the organization, call 866-645-8762 or visit

One last thing - Many of you have received phone calls, e-mails and post cards referring to a "new membership directory".  That IS legitimate.  It refers to the Harris Publishing Company, Marine Corps League directory that we publish every 4 years.  It’s that time again.  Over the next few weeks, the Harris Publishing folks will be asking you to update your information for the directory.  Please respond and update your information.  It is important to the accuracy of the directory, but more importantly, it will help us update the information for the new membership database.  Each time the membership directory is published, we hear from members who found an old "buddy" from their "active duty" past and were able to reconnect.  Perhaps that will be you this year.

Please don’t forget America’s military, our men and women in harm’s way today.  God Bless our Veterans, the United States Marine Corps and our Marine Corps League -

Semper Fidelis -
Michael A. Blum
National Executive Director
