Welcome to new detachment members Chuck Johnson, Barney Herman, and Maverick Dunavan. Ooh Rah! We mourn the loss and honor the memory of two comrades, Earl "Rusty" Dobson and Bruce Crosswaite. They are now guarding the pearly gates. Our Detachment Color Guard and 1953 "Greene Machine" jeep had a successful Custer Gold Discovery Days Parade on July 24. Next parade will be Holy Terror Days in Keystone, SD on September 11. Detachment members Art Jansen was re-elected as Department Jr. Vice Commandant and Paul Miller as Jr. Past Commandant and re-appointed Department Historian at the Department convention in June in Pierre. We are still looking for addresses of Northern Plains area Marines serving in Iraq and Afghanistan to send care packages to. Contact Art Jansen at atj@rushmore.com We are located at the front gate to the beautiful Black Hills of South Dakota; sacred to the Lakota people and also those of us who are immigrants to this island in the prairie. The Black Hills are home to Mount Rushmore, the "Shrine of Democracy", Crazy Horse Mountain, the shrine to the Native heros of the past, Jewel Cave, the 2nd largest cave in the world, and still being mapped. There is also beautiful Custer State Park, 72,000 acres of wonders. All this is located in the Black Hills National Forest, one of the most productive lumber forests in the Rocky Mountain Region. Come visit us!
