Don Conway writes: I was talking to Marine McCarron and we both wondered what Marine Steve Blackwell was doing, so I E-mailed him and this is his answer-I thought you might be interested! "Things are going Ok, I am living in Wilton and working in Cedar Rapids.  That makes for a very long day. I am still very interested in the emails about the MCL but is seems by Thursday night I am just beat between work and driving and seeing the kids. I am about divorced now. I plan on coming to the Dec Pot luck.  Let me know when that is. More later.  I am just at work right now. Thanks for checking in on me.  Having friends is about all I have right now. Steven"

Congratulations to Jordan Meeks, on his promotion to the rank of Sergeant.

Congratulations go out to the new Post Recruiter - Orlie Workman

Congratulations go out to our Past Commandant Howard Purdy who was awarded the State of Iowa Marine of the Year Award at the Marine Corps League State Convention in Des Moines.

Notes from the Commandant:
We are still in awe of the amazing effort our community put forth to be a part of the 2009 WAA Ceremony. Just received these impressive numbers from WAA HQ. Wanted to share with you that we are truly a part of something very special nationwide that should make us all proud to be Americans. See notes below:

405 participating locations (including the 24 national cemeteries on foreign soil);
161,000 total wreaths placed to honor our servicemen and women;
Over 100,000 (current best estimate) volunteers participated in the wreath-laying events;
Over 7,500 (estimated) in attendance at Arlington National Cemetery; Approximately 15,000 in attendance at Houston National Cemetery - the single largest wreath-laying event nationwide.

As impressive as these numbers may be, it is the stories that are told, the generations that meet and the lives that we touch by the simple laying of a wreath that makes the WAA Project so important. Let's all continue to be their witness so they do not disappear. Let's make 2010 our biggest year ever!

The Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund is trying to get photos of all those killed in Vietnam to match the names on the wall. Just take the pic to any FedEx store will make a copy of the pic and forward to the Fund at no cost or sent to the Fund at www.vvmfcenter.org. Any help is appreciated.

Congratulations to all the Marines that made this year's Marine Corps Birthday Ball a Success.

Thanks to the Marines and wives that showed up for the Cake Cutting Ceremony at the VA Hosp in Iowa City.

The Cedar Valley Detachment will be hosting the 2011 Marine Corps League's State Convention.
