Saturday before Veterans day the league will be handing out miniature flags for donations - we need volunteers for the event.

Deepest Sympathies go out to the families of Eugene Francis "Pat" Kane and Don King Sr. Pat the Father of MCL Detachment, Life Corpsman Member Daniel Eugene Patrick [Velma] Kane.-

Update on Member Steven Blackwell: Steven has completed a substance abuse program in Danville, IL and is currently in a PTSD ward at Battle Creek, MI. He is expecting to be going to the Domicilary program is a short while until he can get into the Des Moines program. It has been a rocky road for him, but feels he is "getting on track now." Current address is Bldg 14-2, VA Medical Center, 5500 Armstrong Road, Battle Creek, MI 49037. If things work out for him his new address will be Bldg 14-1. His phone number is 641-455-1889. Steven expresses his thanks to all for support and emails. "I hope to see you guys soon." Prayers go out to Steven for his continued progress.

Congratulations to Howard Purdy who was elected as the new Sr Vice Commandant of the state and Keith Windenberg who was reelected to State Judge Advocate.

Honor Flight will be on September 14-Gary Thompson stated we should support our eligible veterans to sign up. This is a great opportunity.

Howard and I represented the Detachment at the Atkins Parade, shaky start because of the rain.

Thanks to Howard, Pat Jaynes, Dan Wiggins, Mike Smith, Dave Schiel, Orlie, Mark Mason and Lester Fritz for their fine showing in the Urbana Parade.

The detachment received a nice letter from the State of Iowa Commandant, praising our Detachment for the outstanding work we are doing. Just a reflection of al lthe great members we have.

Gene Peterson has a tape of Koren War Memorial dedication to share with anyone who would like to see it.

Tickets for the Birthday Ball will be 25.00 this year.

The Detachment is participating in many parades around the area. Everyone is welcome to participate.

I have application forms for Honor Flights to Washington DC for any WWII veteran or terminally ill veteran from all wars. Contact me by phone or email.

I have registration forms for the Midwest Division Conference October 29-31, 2010 in Mankato, Minn. Email or call.

The Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund is trying to get photos of all those killed in Vietnam to match the names on the wall. Just take the pic to any FedEx store will make a copy of the pic and forward to the Fund at no cost or sent to the Fund at www.vvmfcenter.org. Any help is appreciated.

The Cedar Valley Detachment will be hosting the 2011 Marine Corps League's State Convention.

We need new members? There are Marines out there that do not know about the League and are waiting for you to sign them up as a member. If you know Marines who are not members, please send me their names and addresses and I will send out a complimentary newsletter.
