Installed officers for the Pvt Charles J Shutt Detachment for 2010

After a whirlwind of upgrades and improvements under his 2.5 terms, Dominic Ricci passes the Commandants gavel to Rick Morrell in an uncontested election of officers on 5/6/2010. On hand were representatives from the Department of Massachusetts to install the newly elected officers.

Installed were:

  • Commandant: Rick Morrell
  • Sr Vice Commandant: Ed Aucoin
  • Jr Vice Commandant: Alex Mathew
  • Detachment Trustee (3 year term): Dave Brooks
Commandant Morrell announced his mission to increase the membership of the Detachment by reaching out to newly returning Veterans from Iraq and Afghanistan and continuing the momentum of changes that has been the charter of Dom Ricci and Ed Mahan before him.

On hand for the Department of Masachusetts was Dept Commandant Joe Summers, Dept. Jr Vice Bernie Healy, Dept Chaplain George "Doc" Fregeau and Past Dept Commandant and Shutt member Joe Catarina.

The full officer roster for the Shutt Detachment is forthcoming as Rick Morrell has newly taken over and will complete all officer appointments upon careful review of member qualifications.

    Shutt Detachment Outreach Program

The Pvt Shutt Detachment has implemented, on its own with the assistance of the MA Veterans Department and the Veterans Affairs of Watertown, MA, an out reach program in house. The first meeting was held on Wednesday at 6:30 pm on 4/7/10. Further meetings will continue to be held on a bi-weekly basis and open to all Veterans that can attend. Check the Shutt Detachment website at http://www.shuttdetachment.org for exact times.

The meetings are for Marine / Associate members and other local Veterans with combat experiences that need to be expressed and possibly discussed, within the safety of a Veteran's Organization peer group. This meeting is for those Veterans that have recurring thoughts and feelings that may be holding back their integration into civilian and family life fully. The meetings will also help guide Veterans in their avenues to receive help in benefits or assistance both Federally and at local levels of government.
